We were delighted to welcome Scottish Music Journalist, Broadcaster and personality, Billy Sloan along to Riverside this week.
Billy has been an ever-present voice on the Scottish Music scene for decades, through his work in print media and radio, and was happy to discuss his career with our HND Music Business and 1st year HND Music Performance students.
As a young man plying his trade on a building site, but with a relentless and passionate interest in music, Billy seized his opportunity to work in the industry he loved by approaching his local newspaper, the Bishopbriggs Times, to become their new music journalist. From there, his career path has taken him to the Daily Record and Sunday Mail, and his alternative music show on Radio Clyde. He currently presents a selection of Rock and Pop music from Scotland and the rest of the world on BBC Radio Scotland every Saturday evening.
Billy discussed some of his career highs, including interviewing some of the greats of music such as; David Bowie (7 Times!), Mick Jagger, Brian Wilson, Ray Davies and Paul McCartney among many, many others.
It was a fascinating and inspiring lecture for our students and we're grateful to Billy for popping by.
